Undara Lava Tubes

The Undara Lava Tubes are located about 275km south west of Cairns on the eastern edge of the ruggedly beautiful Gulf Savannah region. They can be reached by car, coach or visitors can join a private tour.
The Lava Lodge offers a restaurant and different styles of accommodation. Specially restored antique railway carriages or a central camping area with above ground tents and all amenities.
Ancient Undara Lava Tubes
Ancient Undara Lava Tubes The Lava Tubes are the remains of the past when the area was home of several active volcanoes. The tubes were formed by the colder lava on the outside of the lava flows. Over time the hot lava on the inside subsided and left an empty tube behind.
Some of the tubes are open to guided tours only.
