| Kuranda by Skyrail and Historic Train |
| Kuranda* is located west of Cairns. The best and most scenic way to get there would be by Train and Skyrail. The historic train operates daily out of Cairns (2x in the morning to Kuranda and 2x in the afternoon to Cairns). The scenic route along the Great Dividing Range offers spectacular views of Cairns and the Coral Sea. |

The Skyrail operates daily from Caravonica Lakes, about 15min north of Cairns. Hovering silently over the rainforest, it offers some of the best views available. Kuranda itself has a lot to offer, eg. local market, animal parks, shops, restaurants and galleries. View slideshow of Kuranda |
| The Northern Beaches |
| The area around Cairns has some of the most beautiful beaches to offer. Yorkeys Knob, Palm Cove, Kewarra Beach and Ellis Beach are maybe the most popular ones to visit. There are several smaller beaches along the Captain Cook Highway. All beaches are public beaches and accessible to anyone. | ![]() |

Water temperature varies between 24C (winter) and 30C (summer). During summer, swimming is not recommended outside netted areas, due to the dangerous Box Jellyfish. Stinger nets can be found on several beaches between Cairns and Port Douglas. View slideshow of the Northern Beaches |
| The Atherton Tablelands |
| Another great area to visit is the Atherton Tablelands. Although less known, it has plenty to offer. Spectacular waterfalls, lakes and small pockets of beautiful rainforest are only some of the attractions. |
