Cape York - To the edge of the continent

Cape York Peninsula is found on the east coast of Australia. The tip of the Peninsula is the most northerly point of the continent.
The Tip of Cape York can be reached by airplane or by 4WD. The road is open during the winter months (April/May - October/November) only. Guided tours are recommended as the trip is extremly rough and goes through very remote areas.

Runway in the Outback
During the summer months (November - Jume) access to the Outback is often limited to small airplanes. Most farmers have their own small runway to fly supplies in. They are also being used by the Royal Flying Doctor Service* in case of emergencies.
Laura can offer some great sites to see Aboriginal Rock Art. Split Rock has well preserved paintings that are definitely worth a visit. Paintings at Split Rock near Laura
River Crossing
The only access to Cape York is via the old Telegraph Road. It was built to maintain the telegraph line. Driving along this very rough track is a big challenge to man and machinery. The only way across most of the creeks and rivers on the Peninsula is to drive through them. During rainy periods it is not unusual to get stuck on one side for hours.
After 1000km it is time to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets at Seisa, the gateway to the tip of Cape York. Sunset at the Cape
The Tip
The most northerly point of the Australian continent is only accessible by foot (don't forget the champagne)
